The Pirate ship model is my first ever model in blender and I am honestly incredibly happy with how it turned out especially considering the fact that up until this point my only time in blender was for the high poly details for my shark model from last year. I have to give a massive shout out to James in the group for helping me understand and learn blender while also dealing with my relentless questions about how to do things in blender. From just this small time in blender, although I'm miles away from the speed I’m able to model things in MAX, I’m already preferring the workflow within blender and from the looks of it how everything can be done within it, sculpting included.
For this Asset I made sure to ask Harrison a lot of questions about how he wanted the ship and made sure to edit it to how he needed it. One major thing we decided is that since players will only be able to see the ship from a fairly low perspective we don’t really need to put a lot of detail into the top deck (we had originally planned to add a cargo hole, doors, details, etc). Since this is one of the biggest assets in our game I spent a lot more time on it then the previous assets and it did take longer then expected due to me learning an entirely new program on top but I believe it paid off (both on the quality of the asset and on how much more streamlined our process got once I moved over to blender).
